Meghan McCain is an interesting figure in US politics. She is the eldest daughter from John McCain's second marriage, and the only one of his children who joined him full-time during his most recent run for president. Frequently dismissed by both sides of the political spectrum, she is also a bleach blonde, pro-life, pro gay marriage Rebulican.

This book is her memoire of the eighteen months she spent on her father's campaign, both as, what she calls, "first daughter political prop" and blogger. She is brutally honest, both about what she saw happening around her and her own gaffs and mistakes. She chronicles what it is like to constantly be in the spotlight while dealing with the bitter internal politics of a political campaign. Being on the road is not glamorous, but instead a repetition of nameless hotel rooms and Snickers for breakfast. Being shuttled to the third (and most broken down) of the buses/planes my her father's advisers was at time humiliating, and at times, liberating.

This book is also a plea to the Republican party to wake up, and move itself back from the extreme right. McCain wants the party to widen the tent, making itself attractive to younger, more diverse voters. And though I share some very different views than McCain, I found myself agreeing with her as I read.

A quick read, this is none-the-less an interesting take on the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

A teabagger with nothing honest or sincere to say. Another sensationalist waste of perfectly good paper.
