A poor man's version of Mother Night. Nicely acted tale showing what can happen if you just go along with what everyone else is doing. I would recommend Sophie Scholl with this as a double feature.

This was a very entertaining film which I had not herd about when it was released. Mortensen gives a beautiful performance as a bewildered and naive professor in Hilter's Germany. At first he is skeptical about joining the Natzi Party but then he does join with a bit of a push from high-ranking Natzi officials. I won't give away more of the plot but his acting is superb. His jewish friend tries to enlighten the professor but you'll have to watch it to leatrn the outcome of those talks. The ending is just so great with the realities and emotions, hidden and all coming into focus for the professor.

Good is Bad... not worth watching unless you like this wimpy man that is oblivious to what is really happening around him. How can a professor be so naive about the Nazi coming into power, is he not well read?

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

A good idea ,.. but the vagueness of the sleepwalking intellectual is unbelievably overdone." Gee ,..I just don't know what's happening , as I cash in on the rise of the Nazis

RIGHT or WRONG,,, Does ONE serve his country, when his country calls him or does one save his friend, from the brutality & cruelty of the very country he's called to serve?

This film makes it very importantly clear, it's just very hard to save your life & the lives of the very people you care about, when serving your country means betraying or helping your life-time friend.

VERY INTERESTING FILM.

Super effort on how one mild mannered academic don tried to cope and protect his best friend who happened to be Jewish during the rise of Hitler. A very moving ending ... as intense as the final minutes in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
