The film is an allegory denouncing colonial occupation and its mind-poisoning creation of 'the other' to justify war and conquest. Despite the useful message, the director's approach is so relentlessly self-conscious, so look-at-this-it's-ART, so filled with close-ups of meaningful glances,... that it comes across as an pastiche of an undergraduate film project. The long shots of the south Tunisian desert are the best part of the film; but it doesn't take much talent to get that landscape right. Overall, à éviter.

Beautifully shot. Of course there is really only the French army here. It demostrates why occupation is never a solution to a conflict. A
