The village of Mere Barton would be a different place without local busybody Annie Roberts. Standing only five feet tall, the tireless retired nurse organizes and oversees local activity with military precision. When Sheila Malory gets roped into Annie's Latest project - a compilation of the village's history - she has a feeling it will lead to trouble. But the project is cut short when Annie is found dead from a nasty case of mushroom poisoning, and Mrs. Malory seems to be the only one who finds the death suspicious. Because of ther nosy nature, Annie had discovered some dark secrets about her fellow villagers. Secrets someone might kill to keep quiet.....

Add a CommentThere are many things I don't like about this series, but I love it so much I don't care. The premise that there should be so many murders in this village and that the police would enlist the Sheila Malory's aid is ridiculous. But if you can get beyond that, Sheila is wonderful and her friends and her pets. Even the non-ongoing characters are so well drawn I want to read more about them. I read these books over and over.
The Sheila Malory series, set in an English village, began in 1989 (this is book 19). The main character's natural curiosity fuels her determined effort to find the truth and solve the mystery. Don't underestimate the investigative skills of a senior citizen.
