Exquisite photographs and powerful narrative by National Geographic photographer and biologist Paul Nicklen show us the beauty and uniqueness of the frozen tundra of the Arctic and Antarctic. The intimate images and observations of intriguing animal behaviour help us realize what is at stake when climate change threatens wildlife above and below the ice. The story and close-up photos of the female leopard seal attempting to feed and protect the author are particularly poignant.

Incredible wildlife photography from Canada's Paul Nicklen, who has specialized in the far North and the far South. Look at these creatures -including the photos of the leopard seal in Antarctica interacting with Nicklen - and tell me that these animals and their homes are not worth our concerted personal and political attention to human-caused climate change. Nicklen is both a biologist and photographer -- and presents the natural worlds at the top and bottom of our planet brilliantly.

Fantastic photography, especially the above/below water photos.
