Good story and was impressed that it was set in modern times with farmer having cell phone and computer in the tractor . A modern story for today's children of the new century .

This is an extremely accurate rendering of a farm life year! (We just spent a summer where my husband worked on a ranch; and I grew up among farms and farm life.) I loved the sometimes humorous, sometimes lyrical quality of the story. The illustrations were more impressionistic than cute or delightful, but still were a valuable addition to the story. Highly recommend this for elementary aged children (I read it to my 6 and 8yr olds who enjoyed it very much).

I’m delighted that a book like Farm even exists. It has a twofold purpose. For kids who have never experienced a farm firsthand, it provides a glimpse into a world as different and magical as any fantasy land. And for kids who already have a working knowledge of farms and the countryside, the book is a magnificent mirror that takes the practical beauty of their everyday lives and spins it into storytelling gold.

This picture book should yield a great harvest of new vocabulary as well as general knowledge for the little ones who study its illustrations and listen to the gentle narrative. The year on a farm is displayed in both detailed, whimsical pictures as well as with short paragraphs linking farm chores to the seasons of the year. Farm is a book which can be visited often and, just as in real life farm visits, children will learn something new each time. Readers fond of trucks and heavy equipment will have new machines to admire. Cooper’s text appeals to the senses with images invoking farm sounds, smells and sights.
Elisha Cooper is the award winning author of several other titles: Beach, A Good Night Walk, and Dance!

We begin in that time when spring has only started to make some headway against winter. When the days start to warm up but the fields are just a mass of brown dirt. We meet the equipment, the family, the hired hands, and the animals. We watch the tiller turn the soil, “the fields change from the color of milk chocolate to the color of dark chocolate.” We see seeds being planted, rains come, and crops grow. We meet the cats and the cows, and follow the family into town on occasion. There are summer nights and days and kids going back to school once again. To crops come in, the winter falls, and it’s all in the life of a single farm.
