I do not agree with solomia at all. I am eight and this was the a very easy book to read. It has become one of my all time favourites.

Michiko is 9 years old and living in Vancouver with her parents and baby brother. Just before her birthday, her father leaves on what she thinks is another business trip. But two weeks later, the rest of the family (including her grandfather, aunt and uncle) are loaded on to a train and taken to the interior of B.C. It’s not until Michiko goes to school in the new place that she realizes why she and her family have been separated. Japanese people are considered the enemy and must be taken away from their homes. A story of how a family faces a huge challenge … together.

I don't find this an easy book to read. maybe it would be better for older children. Possibly teenagers.

This was a nice book about friendship. I think Michiko was very cute. I read it in my book club and I think that it was a very sweet book.

This is the story of nine year old Michiko Minagawa’s family in British Columbia in 1942. Michiko’s life is changed when all men are ordered out of Vancouver including her father. A week later the rest of her family packs up and leaves with hundreds of Japanese-Canadians on a train to the interior of British Columbia.
