!!
superlative and quirky fare from the U.K. you may have to turn subtitles on to actually hear some of the dialog, and even then it is chock a block with English~isms...some you may need translations of. i did live over there for 2 years and even i had to scratch my head a little with some of the euphemisms and slang. i'm just about to watch seasons 5-8, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience thus far.

One of the better Britcoms. A stiff city surgeon develops a fear of blood (among other things) and has to quit or change his practice. So, he becomes the GP in a small seaside town. He's a bit of a jerk and a bit of a loudmouth, but he knows his stuff (kind of like House, but not quite so arrogant). The problem is that the little town is full of small town folk. Far too many wankers, idiots, and small-minded morons. But there are some nice folk, too. The clashes are part of the drama and the fun. Lots of weird folk, too. Plenty of misunderstandings to keep everyone amused until things are sorted out. The Doc is usually right in the end.

I really wanted to watch the show from the beginning however, was highly disappointed when I was unable to share the joy with my mom who is partially deaf since there is no closed captioning. Multnomah County Library should cater to everyone and make sure all videos have this ability.

Enjoyed this dvd a great deal. This slightly off-center comedy leaves you guessing what Doc Martin will screw up...and then fix, next.

Stiff, unsociable London surgeon meets quirky locals in rural Cornwall. You expect formula scripts, but the series avoids clich├ęs and surprises you with its humanity. Funny and touching.

A charming and thoroughly well done series. The quirkiness of Martin is believable and when the colourful locals are added into the mix you get a very entertaining piece of t.v. production.

Sometimes helpful to use the subtitle option in "setup."
