In God's Battalions, award-winning author Rodney Stark takes on the long-held view that the Crusades were the first round of European colonialism, conducted for land, loot, and converts by barbarian Christians who victimized the cultivated Muslims. Instead, Stark argues that the Crusades were the first military response to Muslim terrorist aggession.

Dr. Rodney Stark is eminently qualified to write this book. He graduated in journalism from the University of Denver; got a MA in sociology and then a PhD. I suggest you read this excellent book then try "The Concise History of the Crusades" by Dr. Thomas Madden.

Hard to buy into author's arguments.

Too much subjectivity... not objective; poorly referenced (as far as authentic references).

Seemed agenda-driven.
