Professor Allan J. Lichtman, who has correctly forecasted thirty years of presidential outcomes, makes the case for impeaching the 45th president of the United States, Donald J. Trump. In the fall of 2016, [Lichtman] made headlines when he predicted that Donald J. Trump would defeat the heavily favored Democrat, Hillary Clinton, to win the presidential election. Now, in clear, nonpartisan terms, Lichtman lays out the reasons Congress could remove Trump from the Oval Office: his ties to Russia before and after the election, the complicated financial conflicts of interest at home and abroad, and his abuse of executive authority. [This book] also offers a fascinating look at presidential impeachments throughout American history, including the often-overlooked story of Andrew Johnson's impeachment, details about Richard Nixon's resignation, and Bill Clinton's hearings. Lichtman shows how Trump exhibits many of the flaws (and more) that have doomed past presidents. As the Nixon Administration dismissed the reporting of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein as "character assassination" and "a vicious abuse of the journalistic process," Trump has attacked the "dishonest media," claiming, "the press should be ashamed of themselves." Historians, legal scholars, and politicians alike agree: we are in politically uncharted waters-- the durability of our institutions is being undermined and the public's confidence in them is eroding, threatening American democracy itself. Most citizens-- politics aside-- want to know where the country is headed. Lichtman argues, with clarity and power, that for Donald Trump's presidency, smoke has become fire.

One of the recommendations, which should be obvious: The White House doctor's office should be staffed with a psychiatrist. There is little doubt presidents over the years have had mental issues to some level, but it has truly gotten desperate in current circumstances.

This is an excellent book, in my view, and a must read, as it traces and explains clearly how unfit Mr. Trump is to be president. The book is well-written, thoughtful, and thought-provoking. I appreciated, in particular, how it clearly demonstrates what a narcissistic individual Mr. Trump is with respect how he treats people. The chapter about how Mr. Trump could be “presidential” was right-on!

The last chapter (The Way Out) is gracious. Recommend to Trump supporters if they read - oxymoron?
Happened to watch Nolan's The Dark Knight again. He, who is the Joker, jumping to my mind in parallel.

The book also reveals a lot about Nixon which I hadn't been fully aware of.

Fake news begets fake books like this one. Still hysterical after all these months.

This is a very informative book. It helps to provide background related to the problems of the current Presidential Administration. It is very timely due to the fact that there are new developments every day. I feel that there is no way that the administration (in its current state) will last until noon on Jan 20 2021.

[Update: So Trump has killed the TPP, is moving to penalize corporations which offshore jobs, and is moving to put a ban in place which will interfere - - although not interdict, yet - - with some of the foreign visa replacement workers {Iran being one of the top five countries} - - yet those who claimed to be dems but supported jobs offshoring, insourcing of foreign visa scab workers and the TPP have formed Resist - - still anti-worker, it appears!]
Normally, I don't like to hurl epithets at any university [except Princeton, Yale and Harvard], and I intend no offense to those who have matriculated there, but the author has a position at American University, where normally the student body consists of perpetual // C \\ students, the rubes of academia!
This dude is suggesting something of which we still HAVE NOT BEEN PRESENTED WITH ANY EVIDENCE! How many times must this be repeated? In his last 17 days in the White House, Obama signed an executive order, supposedly for // national security \\ to allow raw data to be given immediately to all 17 intel agencies [before it was filtered and only allowed limited access] - - so why wait 8 years if this was soooo important? Because now the consistent illegal leaking is coming from any one of 17 so-called intel agencies!

I have never much cared for Trump - - never voted for him - - but it appears [emphasis on // appears \\ ] he is doing more for American workers of all shades and hues than the last 8 puppets in the White House; and those I have been active against all my life [the Kochs, the Rockefellers, et al.] despise him mightily - - Trump and company are royally screwing with their globalist agenda! [BTW, there HAS been presented to the public the WikiLeaked document showing John McCain illegally approached the Russians in 2008 for illegal campaign contributions!]
