Excellent comedy that is relentlessly funny with several LOL moments. In between the laughs, it keeps focus on what makes a happy clan - protect each other, embrace "give or take" and be considerate. More about the adventure on the back of DVD box:

When the dreary English weather of 1935 gets to be too much for the eccentric Durrell family, they set off for the rustic, sun-drenched Greek island of Corfu, and the unknown.

The lively clan is headed by Mrs. Durrell, a middle-aged widow who gives in to the whims of her children and who patiently tolerates their adventures. Her eldest son Larry, a budding avant-garde writer with wild friends, has no regard for his mother, while her second son, Leslie, is a gun-obsessed sportsman who shoots at everything in sight. Her only daughter, Margot, is a teen beauty who changes boyfriends as quickly as she does bathing suits. But her youngest son, 12-year-old Gerald, is the heart and soul of this lively saga. Filling his family°s villa with an impressive menagerie of animals and insects, Gerald discovers his life°s vocation in nature and animals, as well as his own voice as an author.

Based on Gerald Durrell°s childhood memoir, Academy Award-nominee Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake), Matthew Goode (Match Point), and Eugene Simon (Casanova) bring My Family and Other Animals humorously to life.

This is a real gem of a movie - incredibly well-acted, very funny, beautifully filmed (you feel the warmth and charm of Corfu), yet poignant when necessary. This is a movie that you can see over in order to really appreciate and enjoy the delivery of the actor's lines.

I hated the Durrells of Corfu series, but this was delightful. In this version all but the oldest child are charming.

Very enjoyable.

Utterly delightful. A family during WWII goes to a Grecian Island to inhabit their own wacky world while meeting colorful people & go swimming a lot. Apparently this is a true story.

Delightful, funnny and charming! I want to go to Corfu.

Charming film with great ensemble acting. No one steals the show, but as usual, Matthew Goode is spot on! A film that is suitable for the entire family.

A wonderful Show. I spent a lot of time in Corfu and this show captures the magic of the place. Met Gerald on several occasions as well, a larger than life character to be sure!

This is the story of the time I spent on Corfu. It was originally intended to be a mildly nostalgic account of the natural history of the island, but I made the grave mistake of introducing my family, who proceeded to take over. It was only with the greatest difficulty and by exercising considerable cunning, that I managed to retain a small space exclusively for the animals.
Once Spiro had taken charge, he stuck to us like a burr and became part of the family. Like a great, brown, ugly angel, he watched over us tenderly.
Look, we need someone who will teach Gerry, but also encourage his interest in wildlife.
- Why? It's just a phase.
It's been going on since he was two.
I feel that I should state that at the time we were in Corfu, the family were all quite young. Apart from Mother, whose age we never knew, for the simple reason that she could never remember her date of birth.

We're cut off from the world here.
-I suppose we've grown rather fond of our glorious isolation.
Actually, Larry thinks the world's cut off from him, rather than the other way round.
- I do now you mention it. Yes, I do.
Fine. But you may wake up and find there's no England to go back to.
- Oh, I'm... I'm sure common sense will prevail.
Why? It never does in this family.
Isn't it enough just to look at them in the wild?
-I like having them around me, making noises, smelling.
You're right. It's just like a family.
I'm worried about Margo.
- Mmm.
She's been in her room for nearly a week. She's never refused food before.
- I saw Gerry with a tray.
Well, yes, she takes it from him.

Who was it who said, ''If you can control your family, you've gone terribly wrong somewhere''?
-Was it me?
My mother steered her vessel full of strange progeny through the stormy seas of life with great skill. As Larry rightly pointed out, ''We can be proud of the way we brought her up.''
''Description of passengers: one travelling circus and staff.'' An odd thing to write.
Back in England, Mother insisted I went to school, despite my protestation that I liked being half-educated. You were so much more surprised at everything when you were ignorant.
That's the problem with this family. No give or take, no consideration for others.
- You don't have much consideration for others.
Mother, you shouldn't have brought us up to be so selfish.
--I never did anything of the sort.
We didn't get selfish without some guidance.
