I used to read comic books all the time but when my mom introduced me to Ranger's Apprentice, I immediately started reading and checking out all the books at once. I think it fits boy's who are adventurous and full of being cool. Will is a little bit naughty and likes to sneak around. His skill fits a Ranger. Boys like to have awesome ninja skills like that.
This series is thrilling to the bone with battles, shooting skill, Wargals, and Kings and Queens, along with barons and different Masters ready for apprentices. Always fun, and very adventurous.

One of my favorite books! You grow with the main character as he finds where he fits, growing in his apprenticeship and building friendships and learning from his mentor.

Exciting, entertaining, and believable. Good, strong characters with not too many flaws (like some books I have read—ugh). A striking plot with a sadistic villain (always need one of those). Slightly predictable plot twists (I anticipated that Halt was the Ranger who led the King's cavalry to the battle, and I also foresaw the fact that Halt was the man whom Will's father had died for). Otherwise, a great read. I recommend it to any teen or adult who loves intense, adventure-filled fiction.

The Ruins of Gorlan is an exciting tale of friendship between the ranger Halt and his apprentice Will. The two go through fear, excitement, and depression on their hunt for Monsters that were thought to be a legend. I loved this book so much I woke up at 4 to finish it. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great adventure

I read TONS of books, this is one of my fav series, with ***SPOILER!!*** Giant man-eating apish creatures, a future BFF, and somebody's wife, this is the BEST SERIES along with Skulduggery Pleasant (see book one, the Scepter of the Ancients). This book is the Best! Awesome medieval theme. The only catch is the last book, which I don't really like, but stil FIVE STARS!!!

This is the first story in the ‘Ranger’s Apprentice’ saga and a great fantasy read detailing so much about this world which bears many similarities to our world, but still strange enough to keep you entertained. The story also shows its grace through all of the well done character building and the information given to us about the world which it all takes place, and what a world it is, from knights in their armor to strange creatures of darkness. The story itself is quite simple with many deeper meanings which makes you want to read more, this makes for a great read of all ages and is a book I would recommend.

Coarse Language: Instances of 'damn', which isn't exactly a terrible word to say, but still not great for young children. And you, Grudgeholderr, please don't be rude. The FVRL is for honest and considerate borrowers and/or reviewers who love books.

Other: Not for young children (as those who reported it to have "course language" who think words like "damn" and "stupid" are swear words. You should probably be reading picture books. Anyways, "course language" in dialogue does not matter. And also the violence is hardly inappropriate.

p. 173: Once you best a man, don’t gloat. Be generous and find something in his actions to praise. He won’t enjoy being bested, but he’ll make a good face of it. Show him you appreciate it. Praise can win you a friend. Gloating will only ever make enemies.
