Do you adore stories that are a touch impish? That take an unexpected turn just when you thought you had them figured? This is just such a story, a mixed-up fairy tale featuring a verbose mischievous frog who may or may not be enchanted, spells gone wrong and a very sensible girl who doesn’t like frogs or foolishness, thank you very much. (If this sounds a lot like a certain Disney movie, you’re not far off the mark.)

Filled with the colorful and detailed illustrations of Barbara McClintock (who gave the wordless tale of an enterprising cat and the deceitful tom who married her), this story propels us along with its exasperated heroine to reveal not just one but two enchantments.

This is a surprising twist on an old fairy tale and definitely for children who want something a little different than the old Grimm fare.
