Here is a classic collection of BC short stories, beginning with Bill Reid and Robert Bringhurst's ribald creation myth "The Raven and the First Men" and closing with Eden Robinson's brilliant depiction of a Native girl's struggle. In between, the stellar stories range across geography, cultures and writing styles, and include the voices of 25 of our country's finest writers. "Stouck and Wilkinson deserve high praise for this anthology, in part because they have permitted the writing to coalesce naturally into a unity, a whole that is more than the sum of its parts. They have selected with admirable subtlety a body of writing that brings the reader a new level of understanding of what animates those who live and write in the 'storm-washed green' ambience of British Columbia. West by Northwest is a marvel." - Globe & Mail

Features short stories by many of BC's writers with international reputations. I had to stop after each story to think about it. Especially good to see Emily Carr's stories in the collection - she was as good a writer as she was a visual artist. I completely agree with the Globe & Mail notes above.
