My four-year-old son can't read yet, but he somehow has ended up memorizing this book, nearly word for word. It's unbelievable. And it's full of fairly sophisticated little jokes and my son seems to get them all, so, while the crayons are undigestible (burnt sienna crayon is eaten and barfed up by the family dog), the jokes and the big vocabulary words are evidently presented in a way that makes them VERY digestible. So I haven't really got the right to say this book is anything but the most powerful tool for encouraging reading and a love of books we've ever encountered. My four-year-old son can't read yet, but he somehow has ended up memorizing this book, nearly word for word. My four-year-old son could not get enough of this book, and the pictures and story it contains. If there's a more appropriately named book, I don't know it. The frogs in this book are indeed a powerful testament to life's diversity and weirdness. It's been a while since I had the book in front of me, but I remember the commentary as being solid, but not outstanding- I would like a little more good scientific explanation for the weirdness of these frogs. That said, the commentary was not terrible. Just not quite up to the measure the marvelous frogs it contains deserve. If there's a more appropriately named book, I don't know it.
